Some countries already have defined it as an illness. Its claws dig deeply into anyone who ever started coming into contact with. And no, we’re not talking about BDSM.
The MMORPG genre of gaming is only a few years old, dating back to the very happy years of the late 90′s and had taken on great advancements in the recent years. The further development of the Internet, and faster communication methods, have given MMORPGs very comfortable condition. They require constant, fast, and stable connections, and, as everyone knows, that the gamer’s biggest enemy is lag.
I present you one of those MMORPGs: Last Chaos (LC). LC takes place in the lands of “Iris”, a great war once occurred between two gods, Apollon, the God of Light and Eres, the God of Darkness. During to this war, the world has split into two camps, the camp of Apollon, led by elite fighters known as the Knights of Apollon and the camp of Eres, led by huge, brutal, merciless race of warriors called “Titans”.
In Last Chaos there are no races, it has only classes, and they don’t support gender selection. The 6 classes includes the Titan, the Knight, the Mage, the Rogue, the Healer, and the Sorcerer. Each class has its own strengths, weaknesses, unique skills, and different set of equipment to use. The trait of one set of equipment per class is a major minus for this game, it makes the game really inflexible and sometimes rather boring. However, there are also some advantages for the equipment system. First you have this equipment upgrading system that comes into play in two ways: the first is using items to upgrade your weapon damage and your armors defense. The second is being able to use other items to give your weapons and armours special abilities.
The battle system of Last Chaos is ok, but nothing too fancy. It uses a levels system, stats and equipment based system, and it also has a PVP system (a bit above average but, again, nothing crazy). The game is fun to play for the first week or two, but after that, it really starts to get boring.
Last chaos has two different experience point systems. The first is the experience needed for leveling and once you reach the needed amount, it levels up automatically and you receive one stat point. You can spend the point on one of your four stats (strength, intelligence, dexterity and constitution). The second system is the skill experience. In Last Chaos you must learn a skill in order to use it. You also need to upgrade the skill so it can give better effects. This is done via spending skill points which are earned via fighting. Just fighting, though. You can’t do anything else to earn skill points.
The game hosts some more features such as pets and quests, party support, guild system that includes guild wars. The pets system allows you to keep horses, and dragons, and… well thats about it. You can also name them. Aeria Games has also said that they are currently working on guild alliance support (two or more guilds allied together), bosses and party bosses. All of the features are designed to make gameplay exciting, but in my humble opinion, they fail miserably and they add to another problem which is the lack of actual role-playing in the game. No, I don’t mean going and starting dramatic scenes, but making more features in the game that will make players feel more linked with the theme and more involved with playing the game.
So my summary about this one, people, the combination of mediocre graphics, lame equipment system, no gender availability, average controls, no unique features, lack of roleplay enhancing features in a game that is supposed to be a roleplaying game, all make this game mediocre and even a bit below mediocre. If RPG’s are really your thing, Last Chaos might be your cup of tea. But, honestly, World of Warcraft is a better alternative.
To be honest, after playing Last Chaos, I have decided to return to my origins, playing text based games… they are more exciting.
