Hancock is the movie about Will Smith playing a drunk super-hero that saves people with a unique presence about him. The movie opened with a great scene, from what you’ve probably seen in commercials, where Hancock puts his feet through an SUV moving along the highway to stop the theives. He makes a complete mess in getting these crooks back for doing wrong and you really get a feel for the character of Hancock and what he’s about.
While he saves people, the movie portrays him as a neusense very well. He tries to save people, but they don’t really appreciate the destruction he causes every time he is called upon for help. This movie isn’t your typical action super-hero movie. This movie takes a look at Hancock’s inability to care about his destructive footprints, his drinking problems, and then the action takes place around him as this seemingly regular man with extreme strength.
Certainly there are other plot points of the movie, but you’ll have to go see it. The movie has a little bit of everything for everyone. The action is there, Will Smith has a unique sense of humor I think a lot of people love to watch him for, and this movie has a plot that is noteworthy and unique. Its not Spiderman, and certainly not Dark Knight (which is on its way to becoming one of the top-grossing movies of all time), but Hancock delivers a great movie to watch with your family.
If you like heavy, in-your-face action and just want to see complete destruction this movie may or may not be for you. It has action, but its not completely the focus of the film. If you like a movie with characters and a mental conflict and relationship, this movie may be more for you. While the character is a superhero, there is a lot to the character to understand and figure out. Its interesting to find out about Hancock and why he is so destructive and drinks his face off constantly.
The movie is a little short as well. It runs for 90 minutes which I would have preferred to be a little longer, and hoped the movie could have spent more time on longer action sequences and maybe explaining where Hancock’s power came from, and explained more of his past. The movie comes to a point where Hancock is being helped, and then he is thrown a new conflict to be worried about. This conflict is seemingly never really explained in full and its hard to get all of the info in the short length of the movie.
Our thoughts? You should see this movie, its great. But it wasn’t something you have to see right away. I was in no rush to see it, which is why this review is quite old. However I think its definitely something to rent on DVD or Blu-Ray in the future. Just don’t forget about it.
