Step Brothers

Directed by: Adam McKay
Written by: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay
Genre: Comedy
Length/Rating: 95 minutes, R
Leet Factor: Leet Rating

As a big Will Ferrell fan, this movie looked like it would be hilarious. Yes, his movies are normally a little stupid, but come on, who doesn’t love quoting Anchorman? I was pretty disappointed though with Step Brothers. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly aren’t nearly as funny as they are as shake and bake in Talladega Nights. While I did laugh at some things, for the most part I was wondering when it was going to be over.

It’s about two middle aged men who still live at home. They are brought together with their parents new marriage and wind up practically destroying their parents’ relationship because of their excessive stupidity. Will Ferrell also has a younger brother in the movie who you’ll love to hate, but the brother’s wife really just creeped me out with a weird infatuation with Reilly. I’d suggest waiting until this movie is on T.V. to watch it, because it’s not worth the money to see in theaters… unless you’re dying to listen to 95 minutes of bad humor and be surprised to see Will Ferrell’s balls (yes, gross). I’d rather see one of his better movies, though, like Kicking and Screaming. But of course that’s just me.

One thing that bothered me is the “R” rating. The movie is very inappropriate for smaller kids, and many parents might not have realized this when they brought their kids to see Will Ferrell. In the past Ferrell’s movies have been relatively tame in terms of language and crudeness; all of the movies floating around “PG-13″ until Step Brothers with its “R” rating. Be aware of this if you choose to bring any kids along.
