Heres my list of consoles that still have games come out every week: Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and of course the old-fashioned, but never outsold, PC. There is definitely some leeway on which console to get your fix from. If you prefer portable, you go with a PSP or DS. If you want big-screen, you go PS2/3, Xbox 360, or Wii. The PC is a simply multi-faceted platform that we can play games on, and is pretty popular. We’re not getting into numbers, so we don’t care how well each of the platforms are selling. The point we are trying to make is…
Theres so many consoles, but they all have the same games! You want to play Madden? You got it: PS2/3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC. You want to play Splinter Cell, you got it: all systems. New games are being released on all systems out there, with nearly no difference between the versions. Why should this be?
The answer is, it shouldn’t be this way. If you opt for one system, you want games that are completely unique to that system, and make great use of its features. Whats the point if a company makes 3 games all the same? Its stupid, and we want to see a huge gap between what games look like on other systems.
Why do we think this? If the games are all the same, then there is no purpose to buy one system over the other, other than the obvious price factor. If one game certainly looks better and plays better than the same game on another system, it makes it easier for late-adopters to buy their systems if they can clearly tell the better hardware.
Games also have this funny thing called “exclusivity” that occurs once and a while. Halo 3 is to the Xbox 360 as Metal Gear IV is to Playstation 3. This is just selfish. I hate the feeling of seeing a sweet game and not being able to play it because I forked over cash for one system but not the other.
Whats even worse is all of the systems are coming out with the same features, too! Sony introducing Trophies (Achievements), Microsoft’s rumored motion controller (Wii-mote), and plenty more are all features that are appearing on these big consoles. So, what we propose here today… Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo: Please join forces and do something to make our gaming a little easier on your consoles. Don’t make me feel so damn poor because I can’t buy more than 2 systems. It hurts, assholes. I liked gaming better back in the day when the only thing at home was the NES.
