The G1 is Competition for the iPhone

The G1 is Competition for the iPhone

The Google Android powered G1 phone from T-Mobile already has many, many pre-orders – enough to rival even the Apple’s iPhone. Pre-orders in the 1.5 million-unit-range are very significant numbers to be looking at for T-Mobile. The only big problem for T-Mobile is the fact that the cellular services are dominated by Verizon and AT&T; how many people will be willing to convert?

Despite the large shadow left by the two competing companies, the G1 phone is very promising, and could wind up competing with the iPhone on a whole new level. Why? Because it has all of the same goodies you would get with an iPhone, plus the backing of Google’s backbone of users that are committed to creating applications on the Android platform.

Despite the fantastic software that Google has created in the past, everything is on the line for T-Mobile and Google Android. The software has never been used before, and could very much not be all it is hyped up to be. Though, I don’t think Google has had too many flops in its day, they seem very confident that the G1 phone will be a large success.

Given that Android is completely new, we’re saying that you should wait for a little bit to see how things turn out. Either this phone will be a complete success, or a buggy piece of hardware that’ll make you want to cry. If you took a chance with an HD-DVD player, you might want to sit this gadget round out.

There is a great walk-through of the G1 phone up, done by Eric from HTC:
