Amazon, the developers and brains behind the amazing Kindle eBook reader, is hoping to make new ends meet with an updated version slated to come sometime this year. We went ahead and named the Kindle as our first Leet Gadget of the Year, but can Amazon top its first product with the improved Kindle 2?

The Kindle had us drop-dead with its practically flawless functionality and completeness, it is hard to believe that it can be improved. Leaked images of the new Kindle 2 tell us that the new device will be styled differently to improve usability and to make minor fixes that many users had suggested to Amazon. There is also a rumored large-screen version in the works that will be marketed towards students (perhaps cheaper, maybe).

Overall, the Kindle 2 looks like an improvement over the first. Though only several changes have been made, we’re guessing that the new version will be much more pleasing to use for avid readers. Amazon set a very high bar for itself and others, we are hoping that they can maintain it.

There are no details about pricing or when the product will be available. Keep checking back, Amazon is expected to make an official announcement on Feb. 8th.
