After we talked about the Samson Q3, we found this gorgeous new gem from Samsung, the HMX-H106 camcorder, the world’s first with fully high-definition solid-state drive (SSD) memory. This gadget is certainly a mouthful of technology, but first here is some insight into the upcoming SSD technology to answer some of your questions. This device may eloquently mark the beginning of the end for a generation of mechanical hard drives
The Samsung HMX-H106 is the first ever portable camcorder to contain a SSD along with variations of 16, 32, and 64Gb of storage. Not only does it include a great new technology that’ll certainly become more prominent in the future (it’ll take a while, just like Blu-Ray taking its sweet time), it has capability to fulfill any videographer’s high-definition needs with 1920 x 1080/60i/30p resolution video.
On top of that, this baby has a 2.7-inch flip-out LCD touchscreen, and a 10x optical zoom with image stabilization. The camera touts very nice 35mm, wide-capture lens that will make your videos look “ace” — just like the movies. Output from the device includes basic component, composite, and HDMI.
Maybe the Samson and the Samsung should mate and become the ultimate video gadget? Wishful thinking, but we’re just excited to see the low-power, no heat, no moving parts SSD technology beginning to snake its way into consumer electronics. It will reshape the way gadgets are made, and that is something not to be ignored.
You can get the Samsung HMX-H106 from Amazon.com
at the starting price of $550.

When Palm released their Pre a while back (introduction here), the phone came with the ability to be connected to Apple iTunes to sync your music onto, as you would with an iPod. Then, Apple found out about such activities and have since patched iTunes with v8.2.1 to block out the Pre’s ability to connect.
That didn’t end it. Palm has gone back to release yet another patch for their Pre with WebOS v1.1, once again re-enabling the phone to connect to iTunes, regardless of the patch that Apple had released to block the phone out. How will this affect Apple? Well, they can do one of two things:
- Be perpetually bitchy about letting other devices connect to their software and causing a lot of problems to consumers who do choose to use Apple’s software, but want alternative hardware. Since the Pre isn’t even on the same wireless mobile network as the iPhone, in the United States, I don’t see how it affects Apple at all.
- Let the Pre harness from the iTunes user base. Seriously, it won’t hurt. The more Apple pushes, the easier it will be for legal issues to ensue and customers to get hurt in the long run. If people want to use iTunes with their Palm Pre, let them!
I hope Apple chooses to end the fight by not taking notice of Palm’s actions. iTunes, on one hand, gets to enjoy a whopping share of the music market, and on top of that, in a business sense, doesn’t allowing other devices to connect to iTunes in-turn allow for increased sales of music? Don’t be stupid, Apple. Make everyone happy, and your customers will be happy, too.
Will Apple retaliate?
- Yup, full force! (67% with 2 votes)
- Nope, they'll give up (33% with 0 votes)

The Movie Blog reports that District 9 has gotten rave reviews so far after a few screenings were held at the annual Comic Con. One user said it may just be better than Star Trek. We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose. Read our short introduction to District 9, the alien movie being produced by Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp.

Almost everyone has had the pleasure of recording a video using a cheesy, boxy and clunky, device with terrible audio. The Samson Q3 seems to be promising a lot for a miniature hand-held camcorder; a nicely-sized product in a small package.

When director Michael Bay makes a movie he goes big, or not at all. He has never lost money from a movie; even his ridiculously big-budgeted movies had no trouble making the return on investment (a chance to make back the cost of the movie in sales). The action packed movies are suspenseful and intense, its Bay’s personal style. Transformers 2: The Revenge of the Fallen is a testament to this.

Peter Jackson along with Neill Blomkamp have been working on hard on District 9, a new movie about what happens when humans try to coexist with aliens on Earth. We mentioned this movie a while ago as unlikely related to Halo, and today it is proven that this is a totally different story as the official full-length movie trailer is released onto the Internet.
Aliens landed on Earth years ago and have been disallowed by humans (governments) to leave the planet. They are placed in District 9, a holding camp for the aliens who no humans are allowed to interact with. Asking “Why can’t they leave?” is the key plot to the movie and it seems the aliens soon become frustrated and begin to do people harm in an effort to leave the planet. This is what I got from the trailer at least.
The movie looks to take a realistic approach, shot in a similar way to what Cloverfield felt like (sans the shaky cam). Visual effects and CG should also be quite awesome. District 9 definitely seems to be an all-in-all promising movie from the director of Lord of the Rings, coming out this August 14. Be sure to check back for more! Here is the latest trailer for District 9.

We’re taking it easy this week to celebrate (party) the United States’ 228th Independence Day on July 4th. I realized how great our country is, despite its recession and downfalls, and how fantastic the people here really are (when they try). We take for granted the vast amount of freedoms that we have, and how far worse some other countries are. We take for granted these freedoms and you won’t truly know what you have until its gone. I am capable of writing this blog with no limitation, no censorship (fuck that!). It is a pleasure.
So go out and have a fantastic 4th of July, celebrate your freedoms and have fun. If you live on the East Coast, I hear that Macy’s is planning one of the largest fireworks display ever on the Hudson River, in order to celebrate Independence, and the 400th anniversary of the exploration done by Henry Hudson. The show will feature 40,000 shells exploding at a rate of more than 1,500 per minute — ridiculous amounts of pyrotechnics. The show starts at 9:20pm on July 4th.
Happy Independence Day!

Michael Jackson, 50, throned as the King of Pop has deceased today, June 25, 2009. His music certainly started many trends, popularized an entire genre, and created lifestyles for many since he started singing and dancing in the 1980s. He transformed the music video. He is one of the very few who have been entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, twice, and holds a few accolades in the Guinness Book of World Records — which include one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time” and for the sale of over 750 million albums worldwide, the most of any artist, ever.
It is being reported that Michael suffered a heart attack in his home in California, was hospitalized, and confirmed by the Associated Press that the pop singer had indeed passed just before the evening.
His soul will be remembered in the heart of music forever, among many others who have passed before him. Rest in peace, King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
