fail_dogsFail report: I’m appauled at the lack of creativity that has been coming from entertainment companies lately. They are seemingly punishing their customers by offering dumbed-down versions of their products because we aren’t buying their regular movie products anymore.

Fox will now be offering two versions of its DVD movies to consumers, a version for retail that will have the typical extra content and a different “bare-bones” version that will have nothing extra, only the movie (this comes from our friends at cnet’s Crave blog). Why would they do that?

Nintendo Wii Classic Controller Goes Pro

Gadgets | February 27th, 2009 by Staggs

classic_pro_photo3The new Wii controller, dubbed the “Pro” controller, by Nintendo Japan, adds another set of trigger buttons as well as an easy-grip, easily some minor adjustments. Is Nintendo getting bored with their own system?

Comments aside, the controller looks to be more comfortable for gamers as well as offer two more buttons to mash while playing Super Smash Bros. Moreso, the controller will give FPS gamers some more control. Sources say that the Classic Pro may have sprung due to a pending lawsuit involving the current GameCube controller design. If Nintendo is forced to ditch the GC controller this will be their backup.

Sadly to say, this controller is only available in Japan with no known information about a North American release. Is there a need for this controller? You decide.

Oscar Wants More Cookies

Features | February 21st, 2009 by Staggs

oscar_statue-awardHollywood has seen better days. So has its Academy Awards ceremony, who are trying to reach as many viewers as it can.

The recent trend of failing award shows has got the producers of the “Oscars” in a fetal position. People are expecting the show to be just as grimly lit as the other award shows that have been featured so far this year, although show producers have been battling it out with heavy marketing and exposure of various colors.

They’re trying to differentiate the show from the others as well as trying to say “it’ll be good, we promise.” Truly, the show, as well as Hollywood, has been lacking the impedus it needs from viewers. There are more movies out than people are willing to see, let alone care about. While the awards ceremony aims to reach out to the actors who make entertainment possible, people just aren’t as interested as they used to be.

529px-the_pirate_bay_logosvgThe buzzword #spectrial has been floating around the blogosphere and Twitter as the tech-savvy users of the Pirate Bay and supporters of torrent file sharing listen in from the sidelines of the major court trial currently underway.

The largest torrent file tracker web site, ThePirateBay.org (TPB), which is situated in Sweden, was under fire from major entertainment companies, such as Sony, Universal, Warner Brothers, et al (and others), and brought to trial to discuss the purpose of TPB and where it stands on copyrighted material distribution. They are now in their fifth day of trials.

Halo: The Sci-Fi Television Series?

Features | February 17th, 2009 by Staggs

img_25571_halo_movie_450x360

We're as tired of waiting around as he is...

We’ve covered Halo: The Movie many times before and ever since, we haven’t heard anything else. The movie has been rendered “dead” on IMDB.com, and there are barely any murmurs pointing to this movie being made.

Barely murmurs. One certain something has been making its way, via viral marketing, that may indicate some possibility of a Halo movie-under-wraps. That is District 9, a said film to be coming from the likes of Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp. However further investigation yields very little likelihood of any relation to Halo (e.g. Sony Pictures being a contributing company).

On a lighter note, the double-team of science fiction aficionados could mean the producers are preparing to make a full-sized Halo film in the future. This movie, District 9, may be some sort of a test to see how they’ll do. In reality, nobody knows what is true — at this point we’re hopeful of seeing a Halo movie sometime in the future… eventually…

Another look at the subject comes from one of our readers, Kevin, who believes that a Halo television series is also quite likely and very feasible. Why not? Battlestar Galactica, a similarly themed sci-fi action show, does quite well and has a similar fan base that its producers please with each episode. Is it safe to say that a new network television show, featuring one of the most favored action heroes in video game history, the Master Chief, could do as well as a feature-length movie?

The possibilities are endless so why is this movie taking this long? Any longer and the fanbase will give up, and the opportunity is lost for good. Shit.
